Honoured Dead Memorial

The Honoured Dead Memorial is the work of Sir Herbert Baker, a well-known architect who was commissioned by Cecil John Rhodes to create this monument. This was with the purpose of commemorating the lives lost by those defending the mining town of Kimberley during the Anglo-Boer War. It is the burial place of 27 men.

The Cenotaph – World War Memorial Monument

The Cenotaph on Dutoitspan road in memory of Kimberley’s 400 men who died during the Great War 1914-1918 was unveiled on Sunday 15 July 1928 in front of a crowd numbering eight to ten thousand persons, and coincided with the annual commemoration of Delville Wood.
